Afghanistan thrashed the defending champions by 69 on Saturday, the biggest upset ever in a World Cup. Chasing a target of 285 runs, England were bowled out for 215 runs in 40.3 overs.

Apart from Harry Brook (66) and David Mullan (32), no other English batsman could stand up to the Afghan batsmen. On behalf of Afghanistan, Rashid Khan and Mujeebur Rehman took three wickets each, Muhammad Nabi took two wickets while Naveen Haq and Fazul Haq Farooqui took one wicket each.
